![]() ![]() Funter Bay is approximately 12 air-miles from Juneau, and about 25 miles by water from Auke Bay/Juneau. This home is south-facing with good shelter from the worst weather. The bay is approximately one mile wide by three miles long. There are currently two households living in the bay year-round, with many summer cabins as well. The bay has two state-maintained floating docks and once-weekly mail service from Juneau. Both the cottage and main house have outstanding views of the water. There is also a timber-frame cottage which includes a bathroom and kitchenette. Alternative power systems, year-round gravity-fed hot and cold running water, wood and oil heat, and energy-efficient. All species of Salmon, Halibut, King and Dungeness crab and buckets of clams in the front yard. ![]() This three-bedroom home was owner-built with loving care for full-time residence. One and a half acres with salt water frontage on Funter Bay. ![]() Remote Admiralty Island, this location was Phil, Donna and family’s Alaskan home for 38 years. In the next few months we’ll be transforming the Funter Bay home site into an… “Escape to an Eco-treat”… hoping people will enjoy the experience of an Alaskan home site, off the grid, surrounded by forests, gardens, and nature where you can sleep and eat where bears, eagles, whale and otter coexist within the clean, fresh, peaceful bay. Juneau, Alaska and Paradise Cafe have been my home for ten years, and now changes are afoot. I’m so very excited to have the privilege of calling Funter Bay home. Until the next adventure, working at Paradise and enjoying each day….be well and think warm thoughts…. It is now March and spring forward day tonight and we are still having very winter weather with snow down to sea level…but in like a lion and out like a lamb, they say….looking forward to taking in the Admiralty Island Day over at Centennial Hall this after noon and pot luck tonight…. Only ran the lights on the 12 volt solar power, but did turn on the propane to pan sear a beautiful piece of salmon I brought over. The wood stove didn’t take too long to heat the house. Only three days, too short, but gave me the opportunity to appreciate Funter in the grips of snow and very cold weather. It was a wonderful trip in a little sturdy float plane, think she was a Beaver…I’ll include a picture. Today the Funter Bay cannery is mostly gone, with private homes and cabins replacing the former salmon packing operation. Made one trip over in November with Alaska SeaPlanes.
